A 23-year old Calgary man has been charged with murder Matthew John Brown, who was stabbed during a house party in the early hours of Jan. 5.

Around 6 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 5 emergency crews responded to the 0-100 block of Taradale Close N.E., after receiving reports of a man in medical distress, according to the Calgary Police Service.

Matthew John Brown was found suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

Detectives determined that Matthew John Brown, who lived in the home, had been hosting a small house party when an altercation broke out. The altercation escalated and resulted in Brown being stabbed.

During the course of the investigation, police identified Walker Eli Risling as a person of interest.

Risling turned himself in at the CPS Westwinds Campus Friday evening and was charged with the second-degree murder of Matthew John Brown.

His first court appearance will be Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at 9 a.m.
