Body found on upper area of Castle Mountain
The body of Michael Hwang was found on Tuesday afternoon by searchers in the Castle Mountain area
The body of missing hiker Michael Hwang of Calgary was found early on the afternoon of August 7 by Parks Canada Mountain Safety personnel.
The family of 40-year old Michael Hwang reported him missing on Sunday after he didn’t show up when expected after a hike in the Castle Mountain area. A search has been ongoing since Sunday and his body was found today, just after 1 p.m.
Corporal Jeff Campbell of the Lake Louise RCMP says “It appears that Mr Hwang was repelling down a rock face and fell onto the rocks below”. He added “Due to the height of the fall, Mr Hwang did not survive”.
Parks Canada officials attempted to recover the body of the father of four, but high winds hampered rescue attempts and the recovery attempt will continue tomorrow.
When Mr. Hwang’s body is recovered, he will be taken to the Calgary Medical Examiners Office to determine the exact cause of death.
The family of Michael Hwang has been notified of the discovery.
