Community Peace Officer death investigated by RCMP and CPS

Update: Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby from High River was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to Rocky View Hospital.  The cause of his death is under investigation by RCMP major crimes and Turner Valley RCMP.

A Community Peace Officer is dead and the Turner Valley RCMP Major Crimes Unit along with the Calgary Police Service are investigating the man’s death.

Details are scarce at this time, but the officer was pronounced dead on arrival after being taken to Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Friday, August 10.

RCMP as well as the CPS have secured potential scenes, including a rural residence near Turner Valley as well as a vehicle in which the officer was transported.  Police are still trying to determine the chain of events that led to the Community Peace Officer’s death.

An autopsy will be performed on the victim on Monday which will determine the cause of death.

Sergeant Patricia Neely of the RCMP says one person is currently in Calgary Police custody, but no charges have been laid at this point.

The RCMP are continuing the investigation and more information is expected to be released later.
