RCMP investigate the death of 20-year old Cory McOrmond of Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating the death of 22-year old Cory McOrmond of Grande Prairie after the medical examiner deemed his death to be suspicious.
At about 2 a.m., on Saturday, August 25, RCMP who were conducting a traffic stop were approached by a witness who told police about an injured man laying in the parking lot at the Prairie Haven Motel.
RCMP responded to the scene in the area of 120 Ave and 100 St where they found the severely injured man. They then called for an ambulance and EMS personnel treated Cory McOrmond and transported him to hospital. Sadly, he later died in Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie.
Corporal Roy Kennedy of the Grande Prairie RCMP says an autopsy was performed on August 27 by the Medical Examiner in Edmonton. The procedure confirmed that Cory McOrmond did not die of natural causes.
RCMP Serious Crimes Branch based in Edmonton and Edson are assisting the Grande Prairie GIS with the investigation.
At this time, investigators believe Cory McOrmond spent time at Spurs Cookhouse and Dancehall on the night he was injured. RCMP are asking anyone who was at Spurs Cookhouse and Dancehall, had parked their vehicle in the Prairie Heaven Motel parking lot, driven through the parking lot or spent time with McOrmand on the night of August 24 or morning of August 25 to call police.
