Edmonton Police looking for public assistance in identifying young man killed in south Edmonton Monday morning
Edmonton Police are hoping the public can assist them in identifying a young male pedestrian who was struck and killed while walking across Gateway Boulevard early in the morning on Monday, July 16.
“The individual struck was a young, Asian male, likely around 20 years old,” said Sergeant Gary Lamont, of the EPS Collision Investigation Section. “Typically, we would not use an individual’s ethnicity to identify them, unless they have absolutely no ID or cell phone on their person, which is the case here.”
At just before 2:30 a.m., Edmonton Police were called to the scene of the collision. Witnesses report that a limousine struck the young man who was wandering across the busy Edmonton roadway near 34 Ave.
Police say the young man wandered in front of the northbound vehicle, which was returning to Edmonton from the the Edmonton International Airport after picking up a passenger.
The pedestrian was killed instantly. The driver and passenger in the limousine were not injured.
This is the 21st traffic fatality in the city of Edmonton so far this year. Nine of the fatalities have been pedestrians.
The EPS Traffic Section is investigating the accident. No charges have been laid at this time.
