2013 Calgary Stampede poster fetches $95,000

Calgary Stampede hosts western art exhibits since 1930s

Hundreds of art enthusiasts gathered for the 31st Annual Western Art Auction to bid on over 100 pieces of western themed art by artists from all over the world.

The most sought after item during the auction was the original painting for the 2013 Calgary Stampede poster by Duke Beardsley which sold for $95,000.

The only remaining Calgary Stampede Centennial Saddle, custom designed for the Calgary Stampede by artisan and craftsman Vic Bennett, fetched $24,000.

The total dollar figure of Thursday’s winning bids was $435,975.

The promotion of western art has always been a component of the Calgary Stampede. The Stampede has hosted regular art exhibitions since the 1930s.
