19-year old woman seriously injured in street race crash

A 19-year old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious collision on Gateway Boulevard on the evening of Thursday, April 19.

The accident occurred just before 10:30 p.m., near 60 Ave.  Witnesses report seeing two vehicles speeding northbound on Gateway Boulevard.  The two vehicles, a white Dodge truck and a dark coloured, sedan-style car were allegedly racing when the driver of the truck lost control and struck two light standards on the east side of Gateway Boulevard.

The driver of sedan pulled over briefly before driving away.

The  driver of the white pickup truck was a 19-year old woman.  She was taken by EMS to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being extracted from the vehicle.  It took crews two hours to get the woman out of the crumpled truck.

Edmonton Police are requesting assistance from the public in identifying the driver of the dark-coloured sedan, and are also asking the person driving the sedan to come forward to assist police with their investigation.

Anyone with information on the collision is encouraged to contact the EPS complaint line at (780) 423-4567 or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.
