Homicide detectives investigate Edmonton stabbing

Edmonton Police are investigating a downtown stabbing at an apartment on Jasper Avenue during the early morning hours of May 3.

Officers were called to the home just after 2:30 a.m.  When the arrived, they discovered a woman in medical distress, suffering from a stab wound.

The woman was treated by EMS and taken to hospital by EMS where she succumbed to her injuries.

Later on May 3, police arrested a man in connection with the stabbing, but charges have not yet been laid.  Homicide detectives believe that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The autopsy of the victim was completed today and determined that the manner of death was homicide.   The woman died from stab wounds.

The investigation in to the homicide is on-going.
