Woman died from inhalation-related injuries in Calgary fire

An elderly woman who was rescued from a fire at an apartment building in southeast Calgary on Monday, April 9, has died.

The Calgary Police are confirming that the woman died as a result of inhalation-related injuries.

The fire broke out at East Village Place, located in the 700 block of 5 St S.E., at about noon on Monday.  Firefighters discovered the victim in the hallway, just outside of her suite where a kitchen fire was raging.

The woman was taken to hospital, but later died from her injuries.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released, but Calgary Police have determined that the fire was not criminal in nature.
