Calgary man dead after fiery collision with cattle truck near Beiseker Saturday morning

12 cattle die in crash

Beiseker is 72 kilometres northeast of Calgary, Alberta.

A young man from Calgary is dead after an early Saturday morning collision between a car and a cattle  transport just east of Beiseker on Highway 9.

This morning, at approximately 12:45 a.m., RCMP were dispatched to a collision between a car and a cattle liner just east of Beiseker, on Highway 9. A fire erupted after the collision, engulfing both vehicles

The Rockyview Fire Department quickly contained the fire, but the driver of the car, a 19-year old male from Calgary, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the cattle liner was uninjured.

Twleve of the 95 head of cattle also perished at the scene.

An RCMP collision analyst, the RCMP Livestock Investigator, and an Alberta Brand Inspector were on scene assisting with the investigation.

Highway 9 was closed at Range Road 250 until 7 a.m.

Police say the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Road conditions are not believed to be a factor in this collision, according to the RCMP.

No names are being released at this time, pending next of kin notifications.
