Cocaine seized at Coutts border crossing
Agents of the Canada Border Services Agency seized approximately six Kilograms of cocaine from an Alberta man at the Canada/U.S., border crossing on March 22, 2012.
The man arrived at the Port of Coutts, claiming to be importing a load of commercial goods. According to Lisa White of the CBSA, the man was referred for further examination. During the enhanced examination, the detector dog named Trooper found an alleged presence of drugs in a wooden barrel. Officers then examined the barrel using X-ray equipment and found the cocaine concealed within the wooden panels of the barrel.
The drugs have been seized and the investigation is ongoing.
In 2011, there were 64 drug seizures at the Port of Coutts, which amounted to 2.8 Kilograms and 30 doses of drugs.
The Port of Coutts is located 330 Kilometres southeast of Calgary.
