Youth facing charges in Fort St. John sexual assaults
Three young girls assaulted
Three victims have come forth
A 15-year old boy from Fort St. John is in police custody and facing numerous charges after three girls have come forward accusing the teen of sexual assault.
Constable Jackelynn Biller of the Fort St. John RCMP says the first incident occurred at Toboggan Hill Park in Fort St. John on November 9, 2011. Police report that a girl was approached by an unknown male in the park and was sexually assaulted. The girl was walking through the park between 8:30 and 9 a.m.
A second girl reported that he had been assaulted while walking through the same park on November 29, 2011 at approximately 8 a.m.
As a result of evidence that police amassed from the first two assaults, RCMP were able to identify a possible suspect. Crown Counsel approved several charges agains the suspect, a 15-year old boy from Fort St. John. The youth was in police custody when he was charged with the two assaults. The teen was already in custody in relation to charges stemming from an assault on an 8-year old girl at the Pomeroy Sports Centre on December 1, 2011.
The teen suspect has been charged with kidnapping, sexual assault with a weapon, attempted sexual assault and uttering threats. The youth’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 8, 2012. The suspect’s name will not be released as he is a youth and his name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Constable Biller says that the Fort St. John RCMP praise the victims for coming forth and providing police with information that was crucial in the investigations. Police in the northern B.C. city praise the girls for their bravery and also the citizens of Fort St. John for their support and vigilance.
