Stephen Charlie of Victoria charged
A 22 year old Victoria man has been charged after police received reports that a 16-year old girl was allegedly being solicited as a prostitute on several internet sites.
The West Shore RCMP detachment, which is located just south of Victoria, B.C., received a call concerning the girl in November of 2010. The investigation into the prostitution of the young woman led police to a man they believe was pimping out the teen on several internet sites.. During their investigation, police have obtained evidence they believe proves that the teen was being controlled by the man.
On January 19, 2012, 22-year old Stephen Charlie of Victoria was charged with procurement, aid, abet or compel a person to carry on prostitution, living off the avails of prostitution, kidnapping and assault. Stephen Charlie remains in custody on these and other unrelated charges. The identity of the teen will not be released and is protected by a court order.
“This type of crime often targets vulnerable, at risk youth with the lure of money, drugs and attention”, states Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz of the West Shore RCMP. “But in the end, the youth is left victimized, with nothing to show for the abuse they have endured”.
Many law enforcement agencies worked together to investigate this crime. West Shore RCMP, the Regional Crime Unit, Provincial RCMP and the Mobile Youth Services team all worked together to arrest the suspect.
