Crews working on deck of bridge

Peace Bridge closer to completion
Work on the Calgary Peace Bridge is almost complete and now that the structure is in place the temporary bridge used to help guide the pedestrian bridge across the river will be removed in the next several weeks.
The steel bridge was moved across the Bow River over several days in late November and was lowered into the permanent abutments in December. Workers are now completing work on the deck of the Calgary Peace Bridge, which is a combination of cast-in-place and pre-cast concrete.
The project had a couple hiccups when a small number of the 80-plus precast concrete panels that formed the walkway were stained and had to be remade, but now they are all in place. An enclosure has been erected to the cast-in-place concrete deck that runs down the centre of the bridge can be poured. To complete the decking, a controlled environment is necessary to allow the concrete to set and cure properly.
Once the decking is in place, crews will then begin to install handrails then crews will complete cap ends to finish of both ends of the covered pedestrian/bicycle bridge and tie in the existing pathway systems. Most of the electrical work has been done and Calgarians could see the lighting on the underside of the bridge starting in late December and early January.
The 126-metre single span Calgary Peace Bridge stretches across the Bow River just west of Prince’s Island Park. It has a 6.2 metre-wide pathway to provide a clear separation between pedestrians and bicycle/wheel traffic.
