Wood Buffalo RCMP have laid a number of charges against 18-year old Kemron Alexander of Fort McMurray in connection with an alleged sexual assault in late December of 2011.

Constable Christina Wilkins of the Wood Buffalo RCMP says the incident occurred on December 30 at 4 p.m., in the Thickwood area.  Police were called to an outdoor area on Signal Road where a 24-year old woman had allegedly been attacked by a young man.  Police believe the suspect approached the woman and was brandishing a knife.  He allegedly threatened her safety if she did not comply with his demands.

The woman was admitted to hospital for non life-threatening injuries and later released from care.

18-year old Kemron Alexander has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, robbery, forcible confinement and uttering threats.  Alexander remains in police custody.

Constable Wilkins says RCMP investigators do not believe this to be a random attack.
