Rain and freezing temperatures bad news for drivers

Police warning drivers to stay off the roads

RCMP in Fort McMurray are warning motorists to avoid travel if possible as road conditions have deteriorated greatly during the day due to rain and freezing temperatures.

Constable Dustin Greig of the Wood Buffalo RCMP says “If you do not need to travel then stay at home.  If you have to be on the roads use extreme caution, do not exceed the speed limit, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles”.  Constable Greig adds that roads in and out of Fort McMurray are considered to be in poor condition.

Both Highway 63 and Highway 881 are in poor condition.  All roads are very icy and drivers run the risk of losing control of their vehicles.
