Autopsy finds death is a murder, but lack of evidence means no charges

Crown decides not enough evidence for conviction
Early in the morning on July 23, 2011, RCMP in Lloydminster were called to a home because of a disturbance at the residence. When police arrived they discovered one deceased man and another man was suffering from injuries he had sustained during an altercation.
At the time of the incident, the Major Crime Unit from Edmonton investigated and police believed the death of 48-year old Gurwinder Singh of Lloydminster was suspicious. An autopsy was performed which concluded that Singh’s death was, indeed, a murder. The coroner determined that the actual cause of death was injuries suffered in an altercation with another 48-year old man.
The other man who was involved in the disturbance was hospitalized and no arrest was made in the murder even though “Police have determined there are no other individuals involved”, said Sergeant Tim Taniguchi of the RCMP.
The evidence that has been gathered by the RCMP has been reviewed by Alberta Justice and as a result, the Crown has concluded that based on the evidence gathered, there is not a likelihood of conviction. Charges will not be laid at this time.
The 48-year old man who was injured during the altercation is out of hospital and his identity will not be disclosed.
