Cold Lake man faces child sexual assault and child pornography charges
Suspect is an employee at Air Force base in Cold Lake
A man from Cold Lake is facing charges involving child sexual assault and child pornography. The victim and the accused are alleged to be related.
The investigation began on Thursday, January 5 when the RCMP in Swift Current were told by a resident of the southeastern Saskatchewan city that they had received child pornography images from the man in Cold Lake.
Cold Lake RCMP along with Cold Lake Child and Family Services attended the home of the accused to check on the welfare of his family. Staff Sergeant Rob Cunningham of the Cold Lake RCMP says the man was arrested at the home without incident.
The man has been charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
The accused made his first appearance at Edmonton Provincial Court on Monday, January 9 where he reserved his plea. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 25 at Cold Lake Provincial Court. The man will remain in custody and his name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim and family.
Staff Sergeant Cunningham adds ”at this time the investigation does not support offences being allegedly committed by the accused outside of the family unit”.
The accused is an employee of the Canadian Air Force base in Cold Lake. As the investigation continues, RCMP at Cold Lake are now requesting information regarding the suspect from the Military Police at the Canadian Forces base in Cold Lake.
So far in the investigation, Cold Lake RCMP along with Swift Current RCMP, Cold Lake Child and Family Services, Cold Lake Victim Services, K Division – Integrated Child Exploitation Team and Alberta Special Prosecutions have been involved. Staff Sergeant Cunningham says “These types of investigations are multi faceted and complex which may take a prolonged period of time to complete. Additional updates will be provided once new information becomes available”.
