Allan Collins facing numerous charges

Suspect caught north of Airdrie
Due to previous thefts at an Airdrie business, owners took a proactive approach to theft of equipment from their shop by installing a tracking unit on a piece of machinery owned by the business. The installation paid off when a Calgary man was caught after allegedly stealing the equipment from the Airdrie shop.
Constable Robert Frizzell of the Airdrie RCMP says the theft occurred on January 2 at around 2:30 a.m. Airdrie Rural RCMP were alerted that the tracking unit on the equipment was in motion. Airdrie RCMP then tracked the equipment and attempted to stop a dark green truck suspected to be carrying the equipment. The truck fled the scene, but police were able to follow the truck with the assistance of the tracking unit.
The suspect vehicle traveled on and near the QEII, just north of Airdrie before it came to a stop after hitting a rock in a farmer’s field located at Range Road 285, just south of Highway 72. Police believe there were two men inside the truck who both fled from the vehicle.
The RCMP brought in the Police Dog Services Unit who were able to track, find and arrest one of the suspects. Allan Collins, 34, of Calgary, has been charged with theft over $5,000, four breach charges and three driving offences, including flight from police.
Collins has been remanded into custody.
