Monday morning accident in Agassiz
Woman airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital
A 68-year old woman from Agassiz is in serious condition after a two-vehicle accident in Aggasiz on the morning of January 9, 2012.
Sergeant Peter Thiessen of the RCMP says the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m., on Highway 9 in the town of Agassiz, in the upper Fraser Valley.
Police believe the woman was heading southbound on Highway 9 when she failed to yield to another car also traveling south on the roadway. The woman swerved to avoid a collision with the other car and ended up going off the road and into the ditch. Her car was found by police and EMS upside down in the ditch; the woman who was the only occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside the car.
The victim was freed from the car by Fire Services and taken by BC Air Ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. She is still in hospital and is suffering from serious injuries as a result of the crash. Her name will not be released at this time.
The RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services continue their investigation.
