Dog shot and killed during arrest
One man was sent to hospital and one man was arrested after a stabbing in Edmonton late on Thursday evening.
The incident took place at around 11:30 p.m., at an apartment complex in the area of 106 Ave and 108 St. Edmonton Police believe an argument broke out between two men. During the disagreement, one of the men allegedly took out a weapon and stabbed the other man. The suspect in the stabbing then fled the scene.
The victim was then treated by EMS who then took the man with non life-threatening injuries to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The suspect in the stabbing, Frank Desmond Welsh, was found and arrested by police officers at his home in the area of 106 Ave and 104 St. When police were at Walsh’s home, a dog allegedly charged and attacked one of the police officers at the scene. One of the officers shot at the dog and the dog was killed in the melee.
A search warrant was also obtained for the suspect’s home. Officers allegedly recovered weapons and drugs, including crack cocaine, hash oil and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia.
40-year old Frank Desmond Welsh has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Police are continuing to investigate the matter and additional charges are pending against Welsh.
