Just get it done!
By Tammy Johnston
This last weekend I attended a funeral. It was for my Great Aunt. It wasn’t an overly sad time, yes she was gone and she will be missed, but she was 90 and had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for years.
I am sure that on some levels it is a relief for the family to know she is finally at peace.
The big thoughts that were running through my head through the afternoon while surrounded by family were how many people have their estate planning done and done properly? Unfortunately my family has had very horrible personal experience with what can and does happen when this issue is not properly taken care of.
My questions to you are: Do you have your Will, Enduring Power of Attorney, and Personal Directives completed properly? Did you see an Estate Lawyer to make sure they are right? The facts are everyone is going to die. We do not know when, but it is a guarantee. Have you put the proper paperwork in order for the inevitable?
I cannot stress this enough. Just do it! Do it right! No, it’s not a warm fuzzy subject, but then either is brushing our teeth. Still needs to be done and the peace of mind for you and your loved ones is more than worth the few hours of facing our own mortality. My experience has shown me way too many families where this was neglected, ignored, or done incorrectly where if their loved ones weren’t already dead they would dig them up and kill them again for all the mess they left.
Book an appointment with an Estate Lawyer and get this taken care of. You need to make sure that it is not just done, but done properly. The costs in terms of time and money are minimal to have it done before hand. The costs in terms of time and money to deal with the disaster after the fact is mind blowing. If you don’t know where to start call us, email us, come visit us. We will help you out. Don’t put it off. Just Get It Done!
