Edmonton RCMP confirm that human remains were found in a rural area about 10 Kms west of Innisfail.
Sgt. Tim Taniguchi of the RCMP says Innisfail RCMP were dispatched to the scene in Red Deer County on the morning of Sunday October 9.
RCMP officers along with Red Deer Forensic Identification Services were able to confirm that human remains were found. The condition and state of the remains are being investigated and the cause of death is considered to be suspicious in nature.
A ground search of the area was conducted by the Red Deer RCMP Canine Unit, Serious Crimes Branch, Innisfail RCMP members and a significant number of local volunteers from the local search and rescue squad.
The remains are now being examined by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary with the assistance of a Forensic Anthropologist. The identity of the remains has not been confirmed. Police are hoping the identify the victim by using dental records or DNA analysis.
RCMP Serious Crimes Branch is assisting in the investigation.
