A deceased newborn baby was found in the Fraser River on Tuesday night by witnesses who thought the infant was a doll.
Richmond and Burnaby RCMP were called out to the river just after 10 p.m., on Tuesday evening. Police who attended the scene confirmed that the baby was dead.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in and now leads the investigation into the baby’s death. ”IHIT are concentrating on finding the mother of the baby and ensuring that her health and well being have been looked after. She may require medical attention and we are asking she contact investigators at 1-877-551-IHIT(4448),” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
An autopsy is planned to confirm the age and race of the baby.
IHIT are asking for any witnesses who may know anything to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT(4448) , or, if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222(TIPS)8477.
