After a day of searching the waters of the Pembina River for two missing men, the Northern Alberta Aquatic Rescue Society located one male body in the Pembina River near Barrhead.
Cpl. Sandra Milner of the Westlock RCMP says the body was found just after 6 p.m., near the Manola bridge, close to where the man was last seen.
The two men went missing on September 27 just after 4:30 p.m. They were at a beach with another man when the two attempted to cross the river through a shallow area. They disappeared in the water. The two men, aged 28 and 44, were both from Barrhead.
An extensive search has been carried out by RCMP, Barrhead Fire Department, Barrhead Ambulance, STARS Air Ambulance and the Klondike Trail Search and Rescue. Also assisting in the search was the RCMP Force helicopter and officers from Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
The search for the second missing man will continue Thursday. The name of the man who was discovered will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
