Red Deer RCMP looking for driver involved in collision with motorcycle

| September 20, 2011 | 0 Comments

Red Deer City RCMP are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who was involved in a collision with a motorcycle at 40 Ave., and Ironside St., on September 17, just before 11 a.m.

The motorcycle was northbound on 40 Ave., and approaching Ironside St., when a westbound pickup truck went through the intersection directly in front of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle had the right of way in the intersection.  The motorcycle rider had to take evasive action, laying the bike on its side and skidding out of control on the roadway.

The 54-year old motorcyclist was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital by ambulance, treated and released.  Several witnesses stopped to assist the man, but the driver of the truck failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

Police are looking for assistance from the public in identifying the driver of a newer grey or light brown GMC or Chevy truck.  If you have any information on the incident, you are asked to call the Red Deer City RCMP at 403.343.5575 or call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.

Red Deer RCMP also remind the public that by law, people involved in a motor vehicle collision, that person shall:

  •  remain at the scene of the collision, or, if the driver has left the scene, immediately return unless otherwise directed by a peace officer;
  •  render all reasonable assistance;
  •  produce in writing to anyone sustaining loss or injury, peace officer, or witness, the following information: name and address; Drivers licence number; name and address of the registered owner of the vehicle; licence plate number of the    vehicle;  Insurance particulars.

Police remind citizens that failure to do so would result in a mandatory court appearance.
