Man killed in Strathcona County crash identified

| September 19, 2011 | 0 Comments

The name of a man killed in a car accident in Strathcona County on Saturday evening has been released.  59-year old Glen Mottet of rural Strathcona County was killed when his Saab convertible struck an abandoned heavy duty steel trailer on Wye Road.

Police believe Mottet was traveling westbound on Wye Road when he collided with the trailer that was left in a driving lane of the roadway.  The trailer was equipped with rear loading ramps and it looks like it was used to haul heavy equipment.  As a result of the collision, the car rolled and then became airborne then finally came to rest in the north ditch of Wye Road.

Passersby freed Mottet and performed first aid on him until EMS arrived.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Strathcona County RCMP Traffic Services and an RCMP Collision Analyst are continuing to investigate the crash.  Police do not believe alcohol or speed to be factors in the crash.
