A 36-year-old man is dead after being struck by a C-Train in the city’s northeast.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. this morning, when the man, walking westbound, stepped in front of a northbound train and was struck on 36 St. N.E. at the intersection of 39 Ave.
Police confirm the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LRT is now operational after being shut for close to three hours. The intersection and adjoining streets were also closed while police investigated the scene.
Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors at this time, nor does the man appear to have been pushed.
“We’re still trying to determine exactly what transpired,” said a police spokesman.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Sgt. Wood at (403) 567-4000. The man’s identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
