Candidates vying for leadership of the Alberta Liberals will be facing off tonight in Calgary for the final forum in the city before the party’s vote next Saturday, Sept. 10.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity for Albertans to hear the Liberal candidates’ views on everything.” said party executive director Corey Hogan.
Last week, the party confirmed over 27,000 eligible members and supporters have registered to cast a ballot, numbers the party is calling unprecedented support. That number is expected to grow by the registration cut off date of Sept. 6.
The five candidates in the running, expected to be at tonight’s forum are Raj Sherman, Laurie Blakeman, Bill Harvey, Hugh MacDonald and Bruce Payne.
The candidates will be discussing their views and positions on issues such as health care, education, the economy, the environment and other matters of concern for Albertans tonight at the Vecova Centre located at 3304 33 Street N.W.
Hogan says the previous leadership forums across the province over the last coupe of months have been well attended.
“There’s a huge level of interest in this race,” he said. “We credit that to a new, open Liberal party.”
The remaining forums will be held in Edmonton and Grand Prairie later this week. The leadership convention will be held in Edmonton on Saturday, Sept. 10, where a new leader for the party is expected to be announced.
