Four rafts overturned in Bow after hitting bridge abutments

| August 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Fire fighters had to help out rafters in four separate incidents on the Bow River on Monday between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

The Calgary Fire Department was called when rafters were stranded in the river or on the shore after four rafts overturned on the river.  Three rafters were sent into the waters after their raft hit a bridge abutment on the 10 St NW., bridge.  The Fire Department Rescue Team pulled one person from the river and found two others on the shore.  People from the three other rafts that overturned were able to make it to shore as well.  Each of these river accidents were caused by rafts crashing into bridge abutments.

Fire Department crews were able to retrieve the rafters’ belongings from the river.  The CFD would like to remind all river users to exercise caution when approaching bridge abutments.
