Police identify man who lead dangerous car chase through Calgary into Balzac

| July 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Miguel Jacques Lamoureaux, 26 of no fixed address, has been charged with a long list of violations after he took Calgary Police on a dangerous, hour long car chase from Centre Street North to Cross Iron Mills Mall on Monday afternoon.

The chase started at just after 5:30 when it is alleged that Lamoureaux committed a hit and run in the 400 block of Centre Street North.  Witnesses to the crime followed the stolen pick up truck as they notified 9-1-1.  He was then seen driving through a bus trap, cable and wood fences and narrowly avoiding pedestrians and other vehicles.

Calgary Police tracked the driver down to the intersection of Harvest Hills Blvd and Beddington Trail N.W., at which time officers tried to stop the speeding truck.  The driver refused to stop and fled the scene, driving extremely dangerously, sometimes driving into oncoming traffic.

Patrol units backed off from the chase, but the HAWCS  helicopter continued to track the driver from the air.  The man continued his northbound journey towards Airdrie, it was when he was outside of Calgary that the Airdrie RCMP were notified.

The truck was beaten up badly as a result of the dangerous manoeuvres performed by Lamoureaux and the truck eventually slowed to a stop around Cross Iron Mills Mall.  Lamoureaux was then taken into custody by RCMP and the Calgary Police Service K9 Unit without further incident at just after 6:30 p.m.

Miguel Jacques Lamoureaux is charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid operator’s license, failure to stop for a Peace Officer, hit and run to property and motor vehicle theft.
