Chestermere grow op busted by Green Team South

Chestermere RCMP along with Green Team South, a combined police force comprised of members from the Calgary Police Service and the RCMP, executed a controlled drugs and substances act search warrant at a home in Chestermere on Thursday morning.

The home was located in the Parkmere Green area of Chestermere.  There was no one found inside the home at the time of the warrant execution.

Police found a three stage soil based hydroponic grow operation in the basement of the home.  There were 1074 marijuana plants in various stages of growth seized in the raid.  The estimated street value of the drugs is $1.3 million.  The grow op used both an electrical and water bypass, which could be potentially dangerous to the community.  A representative from Alberta Health Services inspected the home and declared it unfit for human inhabitation.

There are charges pending against the person or persons who are identified as being responsible for the grow op.  RCMP are asking if anyone has any information in this crime or any other please contact the Chestermere RCMP at (403) 207-8777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through the internet at www.tipsubmit.com. Crime stoppers will pay cash rewards up to $2000.00 for information that leads to an arrest, the recovery of stolen property or seizure of illegal drugs. Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display and the identity of the caller will remain anonymous.

Police are crediting the pro active involvement of community members in taking down this operation.  Even with this and other busts of grow operations, it is clear that foreseen profits far outweigh the potential pitfalls in marijuana grow operations.  The RCMP feel public support is crucial to detect and deter such operations.
